A gap of ৳1,07,000 — more than the entire price of most phones on this site. This is the widest official-to-grey spread we track, and it deserves an explanation rather than a warning.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max costs ৳2,49,999 in Bangladesh through official channels. Grey market units run ৳1,42,999 to ৳1,55,000 depending on storage and seller. It has a 6.9-inch 120Hz display, the A18 Pro chip, a 48MP main camera with a 5x tetraprism telephoto, and a titanium frame.
| Variant | Official | Unofficial |
|---|---|---|
| Official (all storage) | ৳2,49,999 | — |
| Grey, entry storage | — | ৳1,42,999 |
| Grey, higher storage | — | ৳1,55,000 |
Storage is the one decision you cannot revisit — no iPhone has ever taken a memory card. At 256GB you will manage unless you shoot ProRes video. Note that grey pricing varies more by storage than official pricing appears to, so ask exactly which configuration a quoted price refers to before you get excited about a number.
This is not a discount, and the grey seller is not doing you a favour. It is arithmetic.
Bangladesh charges import duty and VAT on handsets as a percentage of declared value. On a ৳25,000 phone that adds a few thousand taka. On a phone that lands near ৳1,40,000 outside the official channel, the same percentage adds well over a lakh. The more expensive the phone, the wider the gap grows — which is why it is barely visible on a Galaxy A16 and enormous here.
The practical result is that Apple’s official channel in Bangladesh serves a very small number of buyers. Most iPhones in the country arrived through the grey market, which has consequences we should be honest about.
Different from Android, and worth understanding properly.
Apple does not operate its own retail or service presence in Bangladesh. There are no Apple Stores and no Apple-run service centres. Repairs go through third-party shops, and that is true whether you paid ৳1,42,999 or ৳2,49,999.
What the official price buys you is a warranty administered by the local authorised distributor, plus a BTRC-registered IMEI. The BTRC point is not decoration — an unregistered handset can be cut off from local networks, and on a phone at this price that would be an expensive lesson.
What it does not buy you is Apple’s own service. Nobody in Bangladesh gets that.
So the calculation here is unusual. The ৳1,07,000 premium is not buying you a better repair path than the grey buyer — it is buying paperwork, network registration, and recourse if the phone is faulty out of the box. Whether that is worth a lakh is a genuine question, and I do not think the answer is obvious.
Region and eSIM. US-market iPhone 16 models have no physical SIM tray at all — they are eSIM only. Bangladeshi operators’ eSIM support is still uneven. A US unit can leave you unable to use the phone with your existing SIM. Ask which market the unit came from and check the SIM tray exists.
Activation lock. Confirm the phone is not tied to someone else’s Apple account. A locked device is a paperweight, and no shop guarantee will help you.
The 5x tetraprism telephoto is the standout. It folds the light path inside the body to achieve 120mm reach, which no phone at any Android price in Bangladesh matches optically. Combined with a 48MP main sensor and second-generation sensor-shift stabilisation, it is the most versatile camera system you can buy here.
Video is where iPhones remain genuinely ahead. 4K at 120 frames per second in Dolby Vision, with the option to slow it down after recording. Nothing on Android at any price does this as cleanly.
Battery life is the best of any iPhone Apple has made, roughly 33 hours of video playback. In practice a heavy day ends with charge to spare.

Apple added a pressure-sensitive control on the right edge that opens the camera, takes a shot, and responds to a light press with a slider for zoom, exposure or depth. The reason it matters in practice is one-handed use. Reaching a shutter button on a 6.9-inch screen with one hand is awkward and it is how phones get dropped. A physical control sitting where your index finger naturally rests removes that. On a phone that costs this much and weighs 227 grams, anything that reduces the chance of dropping it earns its place.
Official units come through Apple’s authorised distributor and retailers like Apple Gadgets, Gadget & Gear and Pickaboo. EMI is widely available and at this price most buyers use it — twelve months works out near ৳20,800 a month.
Grey stock circulates through Bashundhara City, Apple Gadgets and online sellers. Given the amount of money involved, verify the IMEI with BTRC on the spot, confirm the phone is not activation locked, check the SIM tray exists, and open the seal yourself.
৳2,49,999 through official channels. Grey market units run ৳1,42,999 to ৳1,55,000.
Import duty and VAT are charged as a percentage of value, so on a phone this expensive the tax adds more than a lakh. Grey imports skip it, along with the local warranty and BTRC registration.
No. Apple does not operate retail or service locations here. All repairs go through third-party shops regardless of whether you bought officially.
Models sold outside the United States do. US-market units are eSIM only, which is worth checking on any grey import.
Apple has historically supported iPhones with iOS updates for six to seven years from launch.
